The Office of former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged organisers of a reported youth visit to his Ichaweri residence to pursue formal channels of communication, emphasising the need for orderly and meaningful dialogue.
In a statement issued on February 22, 2026, the office acknowledged reports that a group of young people intended to visit the former Head of State at his Gatundu home.
Uhuru’s spokesperson, Kanze Dena clarified that while the former President values engagement with young citizens, he is currently unable to host the group.
“The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, has noted reports of an intended visit by a group of young people to his residence in Ichaweri, Gatundu,” she said.
The message highlighted the former President’s longstanding view on the importance of youth participation in national affairs.
“The former President deeply respects the energy, ideas, and patriotism of Kenya’s youth,” the statement read, adding that he “firmly believes that dialogue between generations is essential for shaping the future of our nation.”
However, the office made it clear that the reported visit could not proceed as planned.
“We wish to clarify that President (Rtd) Kenyatta is currently not in a position to host the said group,” the statement said, without providing further details.
The communication placed emphasis on the need for advance coordination to ensure engagements are properly structured.
“We encourage organizers of such initiatives to formally communicate with the Office in advance so that arrangements can be made for structured, peaceful, and meaningful dialogue,” it stated.
Kanze further reiterated that the former President remains willing to engage under appropriate circumstances.
“Former President H.E. Kenyatta remains open to meeting and exchanging views in a dignified manner that fosters unity and mutual respect.
“Kenya belongs to all of us. Let us always choose dialogue over disruption and engagement over division.”
The clarification comes at a time when youth activism and civic engagement continue to shape Kenya’s political landscape, with young people increasingly seeking direct interaction with leaders past and present.
While the nature and purpose of the intended visit were not disclosed, posters announcing the planned visit have been going viral on social media.
The courtesy visit was planned for Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
